Bay Watch-Monday night

The Kansas City Royals did almost everything in their power to give the Red Sox the 1st game of this series, but not quite enough as the Sox lost 4-3.
Not the most stellar of nights for Jason Bay who went 1-5 with 2 strikeouts, and actually should have been 0-5 but 2 Royals infielders actually ran into each other with 2 outs in the 9th inning to give Bay a hit and the Red Sox a run (but it still wasn’t enough).
There are going to be nights like this for Bay, Red Sox fans just hope they happen when the rest of the line-up is hitting and making up for Bay but that was not the case on this night when Coco Crisp and Jason Varitek specifically looked bad at the plate striking out a combined 4 times.
O-K, so much for the sweep of the Royals. Fortunately the Tampa Bay Rays lost as well. Clay Buchholz did not look very good, Josh Beckett and Tim Wakefield are on the mound for games 2 and 3 of this series.
