A brief reason for Red Sox fans to be excited… David Ortiz crushed one to right.
One problem – it didn’t get over the wall. While Papi admired his shot, it scooted off the wall away from Fernando Perez. For anyone else it’s an inside the park home run. Instead, Papi sneaked in with a triple. A groundout by Youk brought him home for the Sox second run.
After a base hit by Jason Bay, BJ Upton made an amazing running catch of a Mark Kotsay drive, slamming into the fencing protecting the new Bleacher Bar in centerfield. Coco Crisp worked a walk (Ball 4 looked pretty good too)… and then Andy Sonnastine whiffed Kevin Cash.
Sonnastine is just cruising through this game… he’s still under 90 pitches as we go into the 8th.
Mike Timlin is on his way in for the Red Sox… and the fans are heading for the exits.
