Ted Kennedy throws out 1st pitch

A very moving moment here at Fenway as Senetor Ted Kennedy was driven in from left field in a golf cart by Jim Rice waving to the crowd the entire time while getting a rousing ovation.

After being greeted by Red Sox ownership, Kennedywas helped to the mound by Terry Francona and Rice. Kennedy, who is obviously frail as he is battling cancer, managed to throw a very short 1st pitch of about 15 feet. After bouncing it, he wanted another try and managed to throw it all the way to Rice. Bouncing that 1st pitch and even throwing the 2nd one just 10-15 feet had to be tough for Kenndy who was a good athlete in his younger days, playing football at Harvard.

The Red Sox players, when introduced, entered the field thru the stands in a nice move. I’d say Dustin Pedroia received the biggest ovation. But former Red Sox outfielder and now Tampa’s Gabe Kapler received the bigegst ovation for the visitors.

We are just minutes away from Josh Beckett’s 1st pitch.
