This series is a best of 7 but the Celtics may have lost a chance to win this series in game 1 when they had it all going for them for 2 1/2 quarters.
The Celtics led by 11. Rondo was unstoppable. LeBron was being contained. And then the tide turned on a Celtics turnover which quickly transitioned into a momentum changing dunk, in Pierce’s face no less. By a guy 4 inches shorter than Pierce. You can NEVER allow that to happen. Your manhood has been challenged and you didn’t answer that challenge, and the Celtics didn’t answer the Cavaliers ensuing comeback challenge.
This game was right there for the taking for the Celtics. The game plan had been executed to perfection. Rajan Rondo was the best player on the entire court. He was unguardable. The Celtics were sending a message to start the series that they have put a hold on their reservations for the retirement home….but they crumbled, quickly.
Now, can they come out in game 2 like they came out in game 1. It is the $64,000 question. Basketball experts think not. THis has all the makings of a blowout with Cleveland taking the momentum from the end of game 1 to game 2. But the Celtics are champions. It’s just that someone needs to keep reminding them of that.
